Who we are

KalkanDer is the shared voice of volunteers brought together by a common purpose: to protect Kalkan's cultural heritage, natural assets and distinctive way of life, and to carry them confidently into the future. We unite residents, people who contribute to the town, local businesses, educators, young people and friends of Kalkan around a shared sense of responsibility.

With its Mediterranean harbour, whitewashed houses descending towards the sea, bougainvillea-lined streets and long trading tradition, Kalkan is more than a beautiful holiday destination; it is a living cultural landscape. Its place at the heart of ancient Lycia, close to internationally significant heritage sites such as Patara, Xanthos and Letoon, the remarkable coastline of Kaputaş and a rich natural environment, gives Kalkan a special responsibility.

We believe tourism should develop without diminishing Kalkan's nature or identity, while improving local well-being, service quality and long-term value. Our aim is therefore to work across education, culture and the arts, environmental protection, destination promotion, youth support, and cooperation among local institutions, residents and businesses.

Our association is an independent civil society platform that seeks solutions to shared challenges through collective wisdom, strengthens constructive dialogue, and supports the accurate, consistent and confident representation of Kalkan nationally and internationally. Inspired by our heritage, we respond to today's needs while considering the impact of every decision on future generations.

We know that Kalkan's true strength lies not only in its scenery, but also in its people. Together, we stand for neighbourly solidarity, local memory, nature, education and sustainable tourism, working with a participatory, transparent and inclusive approach for Kalkan's shared future.
