Money and payment

The currency is the Turkish lira (TRY). Cards are widely accepted at hotels, restaurants and shops in Kalkan, but small roadside places, tea houses and market stalls are often cash-only — worth keeping some lira on hand. ATMs are available in town.

Electricity

Turkey uses the two-round-pin Type C/F sockets (the same as most of continental Europe) at 230V, 50Hz. Visitors from the UK, US or Australia will need a plug adapter; most modern phone and laptop chargers are dual-voltage, but it's worth checking older devices.

Healthcare

Kalkan has its own public clinic on Cumhuriyet Caddesi (weekday mornings to late afternoon), several pharmacies in town, and English-speaking doctors available locally for routine needs.

For anything more serious, the nearest hospital is in Kaş; Fethiye State Hospital, a larger facility with round-the-clock emergency care, is about an hour away, with private hospitals in Fethiye also serving international patients.

The shape of the season

Most visitor-facing businesses — restaurants, boat trips, some hotels — run from April to November. Deep winter (December–February) is much quieter, with a shorter list of places staying open, and is genuinely a different, local side of the town.
